by Taufiq bin Abdul Khalid
The morning did not awake,
Neither the sun nor the birds
Are up from their tired slumber,
Here, in bed, pressed
Against her skin,
The night has not ended, and
The day is yet to begin,
It is not dawn that is
Setting alight the world,
But the light of her
Sightless breath,
Drawn from the glow of a
Lamp raised higher than
The seven heavens,
Brighter than our eyes can perceive,
Solace for those who seek and yearn,
Oh my love, my friend,
Believe!
