by James Babbs
standing on the corner
they told me
what kind of car it was
but I’ve never seen them before
another warm afternoon
the sun brightly shining
I’m getting kind of tired
I hope they come pretty soon
there’s a bar across the street
I see the neon signs
lit up in the windows
I watch a beautiful woman
as she stops at the entrance
before disappearing inside
I pull out my phone
wanting to check the time
I could really use a drink
but I’m waiting for my ride
wondering
if something’s gone wrong
they should’ve been here by now
maybe I should call them
do I have their number
maybe they changed their minds
and forgot to let me know
