The Hickory Tree

by Robert E. Petras

Sun-crowned,
golden leaves twinkling
in the breeze,
tawny bark furled
along its gilded sleeve,
the hickory tree flashes
its autumn jewels;
for the briefest moment
I can see
through the eyes of God
and he is wearing
amber-tinted glasses.
