She could see the look in my eyes
as I tried to pull the tears back in
that hatred
the pity..
Nothing really mattered anymore
but her last act.
She knew I was not a normal person anymore
I didn't care what poeple thought of me.
So she let me go
told me NEVER to come back
not to see her like this anymore.
Her last gift to me
the gift of life to the gift of death.
I had never ben there for her
as she had always known
I never would be.

THE SHITS
by Marc Carver
On my way to the pub
I looked down on the ground.
There was a packet with some tablets left in it,
so I picked them up
and took a closer look.
The packet told me they were constipation tablets.
I threw the packet on the floor
and wiped my hands quickly
and hoped the tablets had not started to work yet.

MONSTERS
by Marc Carver
I look into the darkened bent window of the tube
The people have two reflections,
one upside down planted on top of a normal one,
as they move up and down the two figures mix together,
hair stretches
two faces become one.
These monsters can even lose their faces
lose their whole bodies
then go back to normal.
Just like real people.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
by Marc Carver
"John come and look he is at it again."
"Disgusting love, terrible, you would never catch me doing it."
"No, I would never catch you that is true. Sometimes he does it for hours you know. Why doesn't he close the curtain or get a curtain, he even does it more than once you know."
"Yes dear, you would never catch me doing it."

AN HOUR IN THE TOWN CENTRE
by Marc Carver
1.
OBJECT PERMANENCE
The baby in the pushchair looks at me
so I start to pull a face at him.
He watches me
until his head twists around,
not as far as the girl off the exorcist
but
until he can no more.
And at that moment
I no longer exist to him.
I am dead.
Not part of his world or any other.
2.
I stand by the newsstand reading all the papers in the shop.
A man comes toward me trying to get a paper
I get out of his way.
"Sorry, there you go."
He says nothing.
"No, really I am very sorry."
He starts to move away
and realize he is not dealing with an ordinary kind of guy.
"Hey, come back I am genuinly sorry."
He walks off.
3.
FLOWER GIRL
The little girl in the shop
is clutching a bunch of flowers
as she follows her mother around.
I smile at her.
She walks off
clutching those flowers as I believe
much tighter now
and outside the lightning comes down
and everybody is wet
and nobody knows why they left the house
apart from that little girl
with a present for someone
clutched between her small fingers.

BLIND LOVE
by Marc Carver
I noticed the youngish attractive - ish woman sat with the ugly old man
I thought they must be hope for us all
then i thought
what the hell is going on here
as they cuddled and whispered into each other's faces
Then i noticed the guide dog and walking stick
and it all made sense
I wish i could say the same for the rest of life.

THE DARKNESS AND THE LIGHT
by Marc Carver
I look out of the pub
at the underpass
half of it is in the light
the other is dark.
I look at the darkness
I feel more at home there.

HOBO
by Marc Carver
A woman came up to me
and sat in the chair opposite.
She smiled at me
and she offered me
half her sandwich.
I think she thought
I must have been some kind of hobo.
Who is to say she is wrong.

FRIENDSHIP
by Marc Carver
I sat on the bench cracked open a beer
a small red robin
landed on the bench.
He looked at me
as his head bobbed around
I expected him to fly off
but he stayed for a while
at last
a true friend.

FATE
by Marc Carver
I looked down at the pavement
saw a small snail on the ground.
I got worried about him
so I picked him up
put him by the wall where he would be safer
maybe I had changed his fate
or maybe I had changed my own.

A DEBT
by Marc Carver
I walked into the Indian shop for beer.
Grabbed some beer and went up to the counter.
Gave him some change.
He looked at it for a long time
checking all the coins.
Then he stopped and looked at me.
"This is a foreign coin."
"Yea but it is probably worth more." I said.
"I am not wanting it." He said.
I gave him another and he kept the penny change.
I guess he thought I owed him that.

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING
by Marc Carver
As i walk around the shopping centre
two young girls start to sing
from behind the pretzel stand.
"What are you waiting for."
Then they start laughing.
I can't help but think they are singing to me.
Everything in life means something
even the things that truly mean nothing.

The bin lady walks toward me\
as i sit in the mall.
She comes out me with her brush and bin.
"I saw you coming for me." I say
She starts to brush next to my feet.
"You don't think I am rubbish do you!"
"No, you are too big." She says and off she goes

THE SAME
.by Marc Carver
Some days
you know
that nothing you do
is going to amount to anything.
You may as well go back to bed
and stay there,
counting the hours until night comes.
And you can go to bed
and wait for the next day to begin.
Where it gets tricky is
when the next day starts
and you feel the same.

THE FROG AND THE SCORPION
by Marc Carver
Absolutely nothing matters
say those first words that come into your mind
they show your true nature
who you really are
don't hold back on that
let it out
and
see where you end up
first thought best thought
second thought censorship.
Absolutely nothing matters
say those first words that come into your mind
they show your true nature
who you really are
don't hold back on that
let it out
and
see where you end up
first thought best thought
second thought censorship.

DIAMONDS
by Marc Carver
Some men are great
and some
have greatness thrust up their arse like a big tumour.
Some men believe themselves to be great
but don't even come close.
Some really believe it
when others say they are great
that is the most dangerous of times
because most people believe what they want to believe
But it is not in the so called greats
that there is much
it is the different people
that I look at
and see diamonds

FORTUNE TELLER
by Marc Carver
"You want to believe in the magic of life
but practacities hold you back
you want to jump
but can't push yourself over the edge
you want chance but like comfort also.
You are waiting but don't know what for.
You don't want fame or fortune
people bending at your knees
but you know you want something
that is always away from your grasp
stretching fingertips.
You will never find it my friend
until you are prepared
to let yourself fall."

Island
by Marc Carver
Today I had a desire to live
on a roundabout.
Initially I thought about it
while looking at a small roundabout
but
then I started to fantazise about bigger ones.
Get a little tent
face one way one day
then sleep another way the next.
Watch cars and people all day long
as they go to work
go to places
have to drive
and I would have my own estate
my free land
I could walk around my island without the sea
and dream forever.
King of the manor.

TAKING THE PISS
by Marc Carver
A group of men come into the pub in Mornington crescent.
They are old,
but looking back on glory days.
It is like watching the carriages of a train
still in and in they come.
I go upstairs to the toilet
it is one of those victorian staircases,
only big enough for one.
I meet one of the gang that just came in,
he is big.
"I think we may struggle here mate." I say.
"I will go back up." He says.
As I pass him I say.
"I am getting a bit portly."
"Are you taking the piss?" He says.
"No I wouldn't do that." I tell him.
But neither of us
believe that.

WALKIES
by Marc Carver
A man walked past my window by the park
then I saw his dog.
I started to whistle,
that famous dog whistle.
The dog started to look around
as the man walked on looking into
the world which was his mobile phone.
I kept whistling as he kept walking.
All of a sudden
the dog sprinted off in the other direction
as if he had just heard the gun in the 100 metres sprint.
After a while the man started to shout for him
but in the end he gave up
and walked back the other way.
He has not come back,
so you could say
the dog was taking the man for a walk.
